Estimate the funding need

This estimate excludes revenue, taxes, financing costs, and unpaid founder time.

Estimated funding need

$9,700

$2,500 setup + $1,200 × 6 months

Separate setup from recurring cost

Domain registration, initial legal work, equipment, and launch production are usually paid before or near opening. Software, contractors, insurance, fulfillment, and marketing may repeat every month. Combining the two groups makes runway hard to see.

Enter only costs tied to a defined operating plan. A tool subscription belongs in the budget when a named process depends on it, not because a list of recommended software included it.

Add a runway assumption

The calculator multiplies monthly operating cost by the number of months you choose, then adds one-time setup cost. It does not estimate revenue, taxes, financing cost, or the value of the founder's unpaid time.

Run a lean case and a conservative case. The difference shows which commitments are optional and how much cash depends on an early sales assumption.

Document the assumptions

Write the date and source beside major estimates. Quotes expire, advertising costs change, and tax or licensing requirements differ by location and entity. Confirm legal and tax obligations with the relevant agency or a qualified professional before spending.
